Theradynamics has opened a new wellness center in Tribeca for physical and occupational therapy, among other services, which will serve as the business’ new flagship location.
Fitness in Tribeca has never looked or felt better.
The neighborhood is bursting at the seams with well-known gyms like Crunch Fitness and Equinox, and with specialty sports like yoga, boxing and barre. But for those in need of occupational and physical therapy, Theradynamics has opened a 7,500-square-foot flagship facility in Tribeca its team says brings a “sports-meets-science concept to the rehabilitation world.”
Tribeca’s Theradynamics, which formally opened on Feb. 1, offers both physical and occupational therapy, IV therapy by REVIV, an infrared sauna pod, meditation stations and a recovery lounge, among other services and amenities.
For those seeking longterm fitness options, Theradynamics also offers an exclusive 300-cap member fitness and wellness club, in which patrons will have access to their own center, research-level performance science and rehabilitation technologies and injury-risk analysis.
“We treat Little League baseball players, and Pop Warner, high school, and college football players to weekend warriors, as well as the general population who is looking for a little bit more of a scientific approach to their health care,” said Michael Greene, director of performance science at Theradynamics.
A former college athlete, Greene recalls the high school weightlifting injury that eventually caught up with him and led to spinal and hip surgeries.
“I was injured and it really derailed my athletic career,” Greene said. “I was working with a personal trainer who was considered one of the best around. Unfortunately, without being assessed properly, I didn’t realize about how much I was actually compensating, and it caused an injury.”
Greene recommends both athletes and non-athletes check out Theradynamics’ free assessment trial at the new flagship. There, they’ll meet Theradynamics’ physical therapists, occupational therapists, performance enhancement specialists, certified strength coaches, and personal trainers.
Theradynamics boasts a customized experience based on their unique assessments, including body composition, isokinetic muscle testing, and neurocognitive testing. For members looking for recovery therapy, there will be traditional day saunas, meditation stations, compression massages, and percussion therapies.
The facility also has an infrared sauna pod that allows people to burn calories while they’re laying down and getting a massage.
“Basically all the benefits of the hot saunas without that uncomfortable feeling,” Greene said. “A lot of our clients will come in, put the compression massage on and just zen out.”
Since 1985, Theradynamics has grown from its physical therapy center in the Bronx to become one of the largest physical and occupational therapy providers in New York. Their facilities, with locations in New York, New Jersey, and Maryland, offer a range of physical, occupational, and speech therapies, as well as sports rehabilitation.
The new flagship location is also package deal: more facilities are opening in Central Harlem and Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn.
Theradynamics’ clientele ranges from pediatric to geriatric patients. Greene added that a new program rolling out this year will offer a proprietary assessment for those interested in identifying learning disorders and disabilities in children.
There is currently a founder’s membership special offered at $249 a month. The membership itself isn’t covered by insurance, but Theradynamics does accept plans from Aetna, Cigna, Department of Labor, Fidelis, Health First, Medicaid, Medicare, United Health Care, among others.
“We pride ourselves on accepting almost every single insurance plan,” Greene said. “We’re considered in network and we never want to turn anybody away. The insurance doesn’t cover the fitness membership, but there are some corporations that would pay a certain amount.”
Theradynamics’ physical and occupational therapy model attracts hundreds of new patients a month, according to Greene. Across all of its locations, Theradynamics logs approximately 20,000 visitors per month — making it a no-brainer for the wellness center to build out its new flagship.
“These are the same technologies, the same resources that professional athletes have access to on a daily basis,” Greene said. “I would say come in and try it because you get a real professional athlete-like experience when you join.”
Theradynamics’ Tribeca location will be open Monday through Friday, from 5:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
